City College Angeles (CCA), the Philippines, is the first Community College in Asia Pacific to be accredited as an APIEM Centre of Excellence ****. This success is due to the vision of CCA`s President Dr Richard Daenos who has established MICE/events management as a key feature of tourism courses at CCA – BS Tourism Management and BS Tourism Management with a specialisation in MICE tourism. Angeles City is situated near the Clark International Airport (to the north of Manila) which is being established as a location for the Philippines MICE industry so that it is able to host major international events and exhibitions. Prior to being appointed President of CCA Dr Daenos was the Tourism Officer for Angeles and in this role he helped to transform the image of Angeles into a city of festivals and events – events now take place in Angeles every month of the year and attract thousands of visitors to the city.
Students at CCA will have many practical opportunities to develop their MICE/events management expertise by supporting the many festivals and events that take place in Angeles every year. These experiential learning opportunities when combined with the students` academic subject knowledge will make them great events organisers of the future.
Congratulations to all at CCA for your membership of APIEM and a special congratulations to Dr Richard Daenos who has become a Professional Fellow of APIEM in recognition of his contribution to the MICE/events industry of the city of Angeles and for his vision to develop MICE/events management as a key part of the curriculum at CCA.
