ASIA MICE 2016 Student Tourism Destination Marketing Contest

During his visit to Taiwan in September 2016 Professor David Hind was a judge on the ASIA MICE 2016 student Tourism Destination Marketing contest. This annual contest has been running for eight years and in September 2016 twenty groups of students from India, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, Thailand and Taiwan took part. Each group had to select a tourism destination that is or could be developed as a MICE destination and then they had to devise a marketing strategy (including an exhibition booth) to attract organisations who wanted to host MICE events to that destination.

Some groups spent six months planning and designing their marketing strategies and this was evident in the high quality of their exhibition booths. The overall winning team came from Berjaya University College of Hospitality, Malaysia and the destination they chose to promote was Sarawak.

Details of the dates for the ASIA MICE 2017 Student Tourism Destination Marketing contest will be announced soon. The competition is open to all colleges and universities in Asia – the students don`t have to be studying tourism, MICE or events courses – they just need to have a flair for marketing and creative design.
