APIEM CENTRES OF EXCELLENCE
The APIEM Centre of Excellence scheme is a voluntary quality assurance scheme for public and private sector universities, polytechnics, colleges and training providers in Asia Pacific that offer undergraduate courses in events/MICE management and postgraduate events, hospitality, or tourism degrees. Events/MICE management is a growing discipline within higher education institutions in Asia Pacific and includes a variety of different courses and modules.
The APIEM Centre of Excellence scheme is open to those universities, polytechnics, colleges and training providers that want to be accredited as providing undergraduate courses and modules in events/MICE management and postgraduate degrees in events, hospitality and tourism that are of an international standard.
The benefits of APIEM accreditation are:
Students on APIEM Centre of Excellence courses can be assured of the relevance of their qualifications for careers within the events/MICE industry.
Events/MICE industry employers when recruiting new employees who have studied on APIEM endorsed courses can be assured that the programme of study has been assessed by APIEM as being appropriate and relevant for the needs of the events/MICE industry.
Universities, polytechnics, colleges and training providers can use their APIEM recognition as a means of recruiting and retaining students by demonstrating that they are one of the best places in Asia Pacific to study for an events/MICE management qualification.
Universities, polytechnics, colleges and training providers can demonstrate to events/MICE industry associations and organisations that their courses have been assessed through a rigorous process of accreditation to recognise excellence in events/MICE management education.
APIEM Centres of Excellence will receive guidance from APIEM following the audit on how they can continue to improve their educational provision in events/MICE management.
APIEM will share with its Centres of Excellence best practice in curriculum design, teaching, learning and assessment methods in events/MICE management.
APIEM will promote it`s Centres of Excellence through the APIEM website, social media, publications and at conferences/workshops where APIEM participates.
The Undergraduate APIEM Centre of Excellence Accreditation Criteria
To achieve undergraduate APIEM Centre of Excellence accreditation the following criteria are used in the audit process:
The Management and Content of the Curriculum
The content of the events/MICE management curriculum will be designed and delivered to an international standard and will result in students developing appropriate and relevant knowledge, understanding and experience to work in the events/MICE industry. The course and its students will be managed effectively to provide a high quality educational experience.
Teaching and Learning Standards
The events/MICE management tutors will have appropriate qualifications and experience to teach to a high quality standard on the events/MICE management courses and will have an opportunity for their own continuing professional development as teachers of events/MICE management.
Resources and Learning Environment
The university, polytechnic, college or training provider library, IT, classroom and workshop facilities will all be of an international standard and will be relevant and appropriate for the teaching and learning of the events/MICE management courses. Regular investment will need to be made to maintain the resources and learning environment to a high quality international standard.
Welfare and Student Services
Events/MICE management students will be supported in their studies by appropriate non-academic services that will add value to their studies in events/MICE management, for example: social spaces, student advice services, disability support including dyslexia assessment, sports and leisure clubs and student housing/accommodation.
If a university, polytechnic, college or training provider has a demonstrable international scope it will be accredited as an APIEM International Centre of Excellence. To become an APIEM Centre of Excellence an on-site audit is conducted by an APIEM Accredited Auditor.
Accreditation fee: US$ 1,800 for a four years period plus the audit fee, and the regional travel and accommodation costs of the auditor.

The Postgraduate APIEM Centre of Excellence Accreditation Criteria
To achieve APIEM Postgraduate International Centre of Excellence accreditation the following criteria are used in the audit process:

Research and Scholarly Activity
To demonstrate research and scholarly activity of an international standard the following evidence will be required from the events, hospitality, or tourism team: a list of the research and consultancy projects in events, hospitality, or tourism management undertaken in the last four years; a list of the events, hospitality, or tourism academic papers published in international conference proceedings and international scientific journals; or book chapters in the last four years.
To become an APIEM Postgraduate International Centre of Excellence an on-site audit is conducted by two APIEM Accredited Auditors.
Accreditation fee: US$ 2,200 for a four years period plus the audit fee, the regional travel and accommodation costs of the auditors.
An additional level of accreditation is also available for both the undergraduate and postgraduate centre of excellence schemes:
APIEM International Centre for Teaching Excellence
This level of accreditation is available to APIEM undergraduate or postgraduate centres of excellence that can demonstrate that teaching on their courses is of an exceptionally high-quality international standard using the following criteria:

• Student Voice
• Internships
• Employability
An accreditation fee of US$ 500 is payable for this level of accreditation (plus the audit fee, the regional travel and accommodation costs of the auditors) in addition to the standard undergraduate or postgraduate accreditation fee.
