The 1st APIEM Seniors Meeting has been held at the Bandung Institute of Tourism, West Java, Indonesia. The purpose of the meeting was for the founding partners of APIEM to meet for the first time and to get-to-know each other. Delegates came from Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and the United Kingdom. This historic business meeting was organised in its entirety by events management students from Bandung Institute of Tourism which is an APIEM International Centre of Excellence ****. The students really excelled in organising an event that exceeded the expectations of all the APIEM Seniors.
As well as `getting to know each other` the APIEM Seniors were also able to witness the signing of two very important MoUs. The first MoU was between APIEM and IMEA (the Indonesia MICE Events Academy) to establish APIEM as a founding partner of IMEA to design IMEA`s courses to an international standard and to provide a certification scheme for the students of IMEA. The second MoU was between IMEA and the wonderful Palembang Polytechnic of Tourism (PPT), South Sumatra, which will become IMEA`s academic home base in Indonesia. This is a very significant partnership because Palembang is joint host of the world`s largest sporting event in 2018 – the Asian games – and PPT is situated in Palembang`s sports city.
The delegates attending the APIEM Seniors Meeting also had the opportunity to discuss how they can work together in collaboration for student mobility projects, staff teaching exchange opportunities and joint research and publication developments.
All delegates who attended this meeting in Bandung found it to be greatly beneficial and look forward to meeting again at the 2nd APIEM Seniors Meeting to be held in 2019.
